Semester and Year Programs

I. Garcilaso Program (Classes taught in Spanish)

This program is aimed at students with advanced Spanish-speaking skills, who want to expand their knowledge of the language while taking courses, fully immersed with Spanish and other international students.

Program At A Glance

  • Classes may be selected from any of UEM’s Academic Departments: Business, Communication, Architecture and Art, Humanities, Engineering and Health Sciences.
  • Semester or a year in Spain at Universidad Europea de Madrid (UEM).
  • Receive a UEM transcript.
  • Spanish Language courses available before and during the semester or yearlong program.
  • Different programmed cultural activities.
  • Students get the most from their international experience thanks to “Embajadores Garcilaso”, a program in which Spanish students help international students integrate to life at UEM.

II. FIE Program (Classes taught in English and Spanish)

This program, co-managed with the Foundation for International Education (FIE), is aimed at students with limited or no Spanish speaking experience. Students learn more about Spain while gaining language experience in a small and diverse classroom environment. Academic plans for this program combine one intensive Spanish language class with classes taught in English and/or Spanish.

Program At A Glance:

  • The program comprises the following four courses:
  • Spanish Language: Students are placed in the most suitable class for their Spanish level.
  • Classes taught in English: Hispanic Culture and Civilization, comprising the following units: “Spain and the Americas,” “Cultural Criticism in 21st Century Spain,”“Hispanic Aesthetics,” and “Digital Culture on the World Wide Web.”
  • Humanities, comprising the following units: “The Golden Age,” “Spain in the 20th Century,” “20th Century Hispanic World,” and “Spain and the European Union: Towards the United States or Europe?”
  • UEM Course or Individual Project: Students have the option of completing an elective from the UEM regular course listings that are taught in Spanish. Alternatively, students with a lower level of Spanish can complete an Individual Study Project.
  • A semester in Spain at Universidad Europea de Madrid (UEM).
  • Receive a UEM transcript.
  • Different programmed cultural activities.
